Sonoma County Bunfest goes virtual!
April 9, 2021

We were so sad last March when we had to cancel our Sonoma County Bunfest event at the last minute because of the COVID shut-down.  No one would hear the great line-up of speakers, buy from the vendors who were going to showcase their wares or meet the adorable adoptable bunnies that were going to be on display.  Who could imagine that a year later we are still not able to put on an event like this?  So we’re going to do the next best thing and go virtual!

Bunfest will happen Saturday, April 17, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and will be a day of speakers and adorable bunnies.  In addition, registration to the event itself, the website will have lots of information and links to rabbit vendors, information and groups.  Be sure to check it out at sonomacountybunfest.com!

The event is FREE and there’s no limit on the number of guests who can attend.  That’s one of the benefits of not having a hall with limited capacity!  All that is needed is a computer or smartphone with connection to the internet.  It will be a simple zoom link that will connect you to the all-day event and you can come and go as your time permits.  We have some wonderful guest speakers presenting on some very interesting topics. In addition, we will be livestreaming adoptable rabbits from various organizations so you can get your cuteness quota in for the day!

Dr. Anthony A. Pilny, Veterinary Advisor for the House Rabbit Society and member of the RHDV2 Task Force will talk on the new emerging Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV2).  If you’re a bunny parent this is a critical topic to become informed on as the virus is expected to be in Northern California by the end of the year. Hear the latest news and information so you can be prepared.

Ann Martin, Executing Director of the House Rabbit Society will talk on “When to Go to the Vet.”  Marcy Schaaf of SaveABunny, will talk on “Bunny Basics; Selecting the Right Rabbit and Basic Care.”  Mark Hawthorne will present the “10 Surprising Facts About Rabbits” that he learned while doing research for his upcoming book “The Way of the Rabbit.”  Lots of good information and brilliant minds to answer your questions and there’s more to come! If you’re just thinking about getting a rabbit or have had many over the years, there is always something new to learn.  Check out the full panel of speakers and schedule of talks at sonomacountybunfest.com.

In between speakers we will be taking virtual trips to various rescues and highlighting adoptable bunnies and giving quick tips and demos on grooming.  Can’t do a Bunfest without some live rabbits to admire, right?!  We, at the Rohnert Park Animal Shelter, adore bunnies and want to share this love, and information, with everyone.  We hope you will help spread the word of this event to all your bunny-loving, or just curious, friends and join us Saturday, April 17.
