Cindy Bagley
Center entertains the region
July 16, 2021

The curtain will go up for productions at the Spreckels Performing Arts Center. Spend an evening rejoicing in the return of live theater.  Spreckels Performing Arts Center is a cultural gem located on the Green Music Center/Sonoma State corridor of Rohnert Park Expressway in Rohnert Park.  Now in its thirty-second year, the Performing Arts Center continues to present award-winning theatre, music and dance. Over 20,000 people a year come through its doors from all over the Bay Area, making Spreckels not just a locally attended venue but a destination that entertains the entire region.

Be careful what you wish for, as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical. Into the Woods JR., presented by Spreckels Education Program youth ages 12-18, features all of your favorite characters: Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch, and others in this lyrical, rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wants to attend the King's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever. Mark your calendars and get your tickets! The show runs from July 22-25, and tickets can be purchased online at

After over a year of living life on Zoom cameras, maybe you’re ready to be under the stage lights in an upcoming theatre performance? Spreckels Theatre Company is now accepting video auditions for “Noises Off” by Michael Frayn, and “The Wickham’s: Christmas at Pemberley,” by Lauren Gunderson and Margo Melcon.  "Noises Off" runs October 8-24, 2021.  "The Wickham’s: Christmas at Pemberley" runs November 19-December 12, 2021. All roles are currently open for both shows.  The roles are offered on a volunteer basis.

Spreckels is committed to diverse representation on our stages, and welcomes all non-Equity actors to audition. We would love to see a broad range of diversity in both these plays and encourage all interested actors to send in a video.

Please prepare two monologues, not to exceed 3-minutes combined total. Please include a current headshot and resume. If you are an actor who has worked with Spreckels in the last three years, no video is required, but please send a letter of interest with a current resume and headshot.

Submissions should be received no later than July 23, 2021 using the google form below: Any questions may be addressed to: Elizabeth at

Can’t wait to see you back at the theatre!
