The value of calm in the midst of chaos

As news stories continue to swirl all around us and everything is changing not only from day to day but from hour to hour, maintaining a sense of inner peace and well-being is most practical and has a very high value.  From a health perspective, all of our body systems that do not directly relate to the “fight or flight” response are severely dampened when we are or feel threatened.  This includes our immune system and its responses.

Ultimately, it is our own immune system that is responsible for fighting off any disease process that comes our way.  Antibiotics are meant to give extra ammunition to our immune system.  Vaccines are meant to stimulate our immune system to be better able to quickly respond to an antigen or infection coming our way.  The all-important proper hygiene is meant to keep infectious materials out of our field of contact.  It still comes down to the strength of our own immune system that determines how we are able to fend off microbial invaders.

Here in Sonoma County, we have an educated public and an abundance of healthcare practitioners who focus on enhancing overall well-being.  Healthy lifestyle, community support, exercise, yoga, fresh air activities, clean foods, meditation, herbal remedies, nutritional supplements, chiropractic, acupuncture, functional medicine and the list goes on.  Do follow the “safe practices” that our government is suggesting/mandating but do not forget to continue those lifestyle choices that have brought you to a healthier state of well-being up to now.
