The Salvation Army expands response to Kincade Fire

November 1, 2019

Nonprofit pulls together additional corps and volunteers across Northern California to answer the call for help at six shelters

What:   The Salvation Army will serve lunch and dinner today to thousands of people at six shelters for evacuees from the Kincade Fire. Evacuations are underway in Sonoma County as powerful winds push the wildfire towards Windsor and other towns. The Sonoma County Sheriff tweeted approximately 180,000 people in the county are under evacuation orders. The Salvation Army will serve three meals a day for the foreseeable future at six evacuation shelters from Emergency Disaster Services canteens, providing food and drinks to those who need it most.

Why:  At time of release, CAL FIRE reported the Kincade Fire at 30,000 acres and was 10% contained. It started early Friday morning northeast of Geyserville. The fire agency reported at least 79 structures have been destroyed and 14 others damaged. More than 3,000 fire personnel are working to keep this fire from spreading into heavily populated areas.
