The Santa Rosa Housing Authority is accepting applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program Waiting List beginning today, Sept. 1 and through Oct. 31.
This federal subsidy program helps low-income families afford market-rate, private rental housing within the Santa Rosa city limits. Applications are due no later than Sunday, Oct. 31, after which time, the Housing Authority will conduct a random lottery to determine applicants’ placement on the waitlist.
Residents may complete an application online at srcity.org/Waitlist. Individuals requiring Telecommunications Relay Services may use the 7-1-1 dialing code, and for all other accommodations and assistance, residents may contact the Santa Rosa Housing Authority at 707-543-3324.
To qualify for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, applicants must meet low-income guidelines, which begin at $40,750 for a one-person household and up to $76,800 for an eight-person household. Voucher holders pay approximately 30-40 percent of their monthly income towards the rent. The City of Santa Rosa Housing Authority pays the balance of the rent to the owner within reasonable limits.
Community members are advised to be cautious of fraudulent websites being operated by scammers in the name of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and Section 8 Waiting Lists. These fraudulent websites may appear authentic, using the name “Section 8,” and they might show an Equal Housing Opportunity logo, but they are a scam designed to take the applicant’s money and sell their personal information. Websites that require payment or credit card information to apply to a waitlist are fraudulent. The Housing Authority never collects fees-for-service or credit card numbers to apply to a waitlist. The only legitimate website to use to apply to the Santa Rosa Housing Authority Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program Waitlist is srcity.org/Waitlist.
To report a website that seems fraudulent, residents may file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and email the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development at Hotline@HUDOIG.gov.
