The City of Rohnert Park cut the ribbons on Maurice Fredericks Park on Saturday November 14. The ribbon cutting symbolized its official opening.
The 5-acre park on the southeast corner of the city is the newest addition to the WillowGlen development, also known as W-Section. The park features a picnic area, dog park, basketball court, grass open space and playground.
Mayor Joseph T. Callinan stated “I’m excited to add another park to our community and continue the legacy of Maurice Fredericks. Maurice was a strong advocate for parks in Rohnert Park. This is a way to honor his contributions to the quality of life for our residents.”
Maurice Fredericks, in partnership with Paul Golis, is known as the co-founder of the City of Rohnert Park. Fredericks and Golis master planned the city after purchasing seed farmland from the Rohnert family. The master plan included a park next to a school in each neighborhood in the city.
We remind residents who visit parks to continue to wear masks, maintain 6-ft social distance and adhere to the current Health Order Guidelines.
