The local post and auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold their annual Christmas party for members and their families on December 19 at the Cotati Veterans’ Memorial Building.

Santa Claus will be there to distribute stockings and toys and there will be a film program for the children.

Auxiliary and post members recently wrapped and mailed 64 gift boxes to servicemen in Vietnam. Working in the project were Mr. and Mrs. Warren Perry, Mrs. Annabelle Thomas, Mrs. Rudy Malarich, Ruby Otani, Timmy Thomas and Mrs. Frank Piazza.

Future plans for the VFW groups include a polenta and stew dinner and dance and breaking of the pignata. This event is scheduled for February 14 at the Veterans’ Memorial. Tickets will go on sale in January.

Irene Hilsendager’s column each week touches on moments in the history of Cotati, Rohnert Park and Penngrove.
