Rohnert Park has its own city planner and he is Paul Skanchy. Skanchy will devote 50 percent of his time to working with the city council, the city planning commission and City Manager Pete Callinan and his staff.
His employment is in line with city policy for innovative growth of Rohnert Park as a model, suburban community wit green belts, attractive housing, parks and playgrounds and the commercial establishments essential to the convenience of the residents.
Skanchy brings to his new position a wealth of successful experience as a planner.
He was an integral part of the Planning Department of the island of Guam from 1965 to 1968. He was a member of the San Jose Planning Department from 1961 to 1966.
Skanchy will continue as an employee of the Sonoma County Planning Commission and as a consultant to the City of Sonoma.
Irene Hilsendager’s column each week touches on moments in the history of Cotati, Rohnert Park and Penngrove.
