Garden Camp event July 5-30

May 7, 2021

School Garden Network is going bananas over its first ever Garden Camp! This summer, starting July 5, kids can wiggle and giggle all day long while learning about how to care for foods that help them grow. This camp will be led by Erin Bertsch (aka Wormy Wormenstein) as well as an energetic team of gifted and groovy garden groupies. Together they will reveal the life in the gardens and surrounding acreage of Salmon Creek School in Occidental. Each week involves test driving the apple press or bike blender, sampling food from the garden, peaceful nature exploration, running around playing games, journaling, singing “campy” songs, and enjoying stories during meals together. Through four individual weeklong day camps, School Garden Network will reconnect kids to their food and the natural world around them each and every day through investigation, exploration, art and joy.

Be a peach, help spread the word!

Garden Camp Week 1: Brainiac Blastoff

Have you ever made a garden trellis before? What about a solar oven? Or natural paints? Brainiac Blastoff is perfect for kids who want to develop their inner engineer. Time to build some memories!

Garden Camp Week 2: Rooted Hearts

Do you want to learn how to move silently through the woods with your senses raised up high? Rooted Hearts is a perfect way for kids to be one with nature. It’s dirt time!

Garden Camp Week 3: Budding Botanists

Ever dig in the compost just to see what’s up? Budding Botanists is a week for campers to set up experiments on the land to investigate why plants thrive in certain habitats. It's time to investigate!

Garden Camp Week 4: Fruits of Our Labor

Can you mimic a bird call in the garden?  Fruits of Our Labor is designed for campers to engage their imagination through cooperation. Time to make some magic!

School Garden Network is a 501c3 grassroots organization that grows healthy students, families, schools, and communities through garden-based education. Many thanks to Bohemian Market for sponsoring scholarships for students.
