Former Sebastopol Mayor Robert Jacob has been charged with five felonies and one misdemeanor related to sexual assault on a minor, according to Sebastopol Police Chief Kevin Kilgore. The alleged assaults, which include at least one underage victim, are believed to have occurred between Dec. 2019 and March 2021, according to a statement released by Kilgore. Sebastopol police learned of the alleged sexual assaults on March 30 and launched an investigation., which culminated with Jacob’s arrest Saturday, April 10.

The story was originally reported by The Press Democrat;however, The Community Voice has obtained information regarding Jacob’s online sexual behavior, which could potentially implicate other victims and perpetrators.

An anonymous source told The Community Voice that Jacob used the gay dating app Grindr, where he displayed interest in BDSM. An account identifying itself with an image of Jacob told the source that men came from all over the world to learn to be sexually submissive under his mentorship. According to the source, Jacob extended an invitation to come to his home in Sebastopol to participate in BDSM sexual activity with a visitor of an unknown age.

Messages between Jacob and the source suggest Jacob would regularly recruit men from the area to participate in sexual activities with his guests. It is unknown whether any of the criminal incidents related to the charges filed against Jacob were organized this way, or if others engaged in criminal activity alongside Jacob.

Photos sent to the source and seen by this reporter showed an image of Jacob associated with the account. Other photos linked to the account associated with that image showed men in various degrees of undress and bondage. In one photo, a man’s back is used as a footstool. In another, a man is shown blind-folded, bound and gagged with “RJ’s (expletive deleted)” written on his skin in black marker.

This behavior is only relevant in light of the criminal charges filed against Jacob, who was detained by Sebastopol police Saturday morning and is being held in the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Center without bail. At this time Chief Kilgore said information gathered from gay dating apps like Grindr had not factored into the investigation, which is still ongoing. There is currently no evidence to suggest additional criminal behavior outside the single underage victim.

Chief Kilgore asks anyone with information on this case to contact the Sebastopol Police Department.

“The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have information, we encourage to contact us. Even if someone thinks it’s not important, they should send us any information they have,” Kilgore said.

Those with any information that could be pertinent to the case are advised to contact the Sebastopol Police Department at 707-829-4400.
