Beginning Monday, June 29, the Sonoma County Library is expanding services to all branches. The service will be offered at 12 library branches, Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We’re so happy to continue to gradually and safely restore services,” said Sonoma County Library Director Ann Hammond. “Our patrons have been patient while we were primarily a digital library, but we know that for many, nothing replaces holding a book in their hands.”
The Forestville and Occidental rural stations will offer curbside service on their previous six-day-a-week schedules. The Sonoma County History & Genealogy Library does not circulate materials, so no curbside will be offered, but staff will be available to the public by telephone, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and by email.
so beginning June 29, library patrons will be able to place holds online at , and checkout limits for curbside will increase to 10 items per pickup.
Curbside pickup will take place outside each library, with patrons able to request items such as books, DVDs, CDs and more online or by telephone. Due to high demand, WiFi hotspots and laptop ChromeKits are not currently available.
Hammond asks the community to be patient a bit longer before returning books. “The logistics of safe returns, quarantine and recirculation of materials are significant, but we hope to begin accepting returns soon,” she said.
As the library begins to reopen for physical materials, it is maintaining its commitment to digital resources, with a few changes. A handful of the least-used databases will be discontinued. Checkout limits for the hoopla, Kanopy and OverDrive services will decrease, due to budget constraints brought on by the pandemic.
