“Change a life in an hour”

April 30, 2021

“Change a Life in an Hour” is the theme inspiring Aldea Children and Family Services’ virtual fundraising event set for Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Nationally recognized suicide survivor and prevention advocate Kevin Berthia will be the special guest at the VIP Reception from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by the main program from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In Napa and Solano counties, Aldea has long been respected as the essential community partner for children and families in crisis. But more recently, Aldea has been called upon to provide these services – providing professional mental health, child welfare and support services – to meet urgent and critical needs in Sonoma county as well.

Funds raised at the event are needed to close the funding gap for programs that serve all three counties like Foster and Adoption Care, SOAR (Supportive Outreach and Access to Resources) Early Detection of Psychosis and to close the gap from contributions not made because of the pandemic.

When children are in danger in their homes, and county agencies must intervene, the instability children suffer can cause trauma that requires help. Aldea is the essential community partner for these children and families with its Foster and Adoption Care. The goals of SOAR are to empower clients and families to understand psychotic illness in general and the client’s illness in particular, to fully engage clients and families with their own recoveries. Initially established in Napa, with a second clinic in Solano, a third client was recently established in Sonoma county led by One Mind. A partner in mental health, with key financial support from Kaiser Permanente Northern California, the Elizabeth Morgan Brown Center is the inaugural clinic of One Mind’s ASPIRe initiative.

Of special interest in the virtual event’s VIP Reception will be the presentation of the Courage to Change a Life Award, which was create by the Aldea Board to recognize the efforts of clients and their families who have demonstrated exceptional courage and devotion to improving lives and creating bright futures in our community.

VIP tickets are $125 and include the reception and main program and a gourmet three-course dinner prepared by Tre Posti and delivered to guests’ homes. General admission tickets to the main program are $55. For information on tickets, sponsorships, or the auction, visit Aldea’s website ( or contact Michele Farhat at, 707.255.1855.
