Census Bureau seeking more job applications in Sonoma County

June 12, 2020

The U.S. Census Bureau is seeking more census taker job applications in three North Coast counties in California. In a time when many organizations are furloughing or laying off employees, the Census Bureau will be hiring half a million people nationwide to complete the Non-Response Follow-Up operation, which sends census takers to the doors of those who have not yet self-responded to the 2020 Census. The operation begins August 11 and runs through the end of the count, October 31. Census takers will be part of the world’s largest peacetime mobilization and help their communities get much-needed federal funding for essential services like healthcare, road repair and school programs.

The following are the application needs for each county. These numbers do NOT represent open positions, they are the number of applications the Census Bureau needs to meet its application targets in these areas. Consideration and selection for the jobs will continue from now until early August. Applicants need to be U.S. citizens and 18 years of age, with an email address and Social Security number. They can apply online at 2020census.gov/jobs.

Trinity: 87 applications, Mendocino: 267 applications and Sonoma: 1,235 applications
