Bark After Dark

February 21, 2020

Well this Saturday is our big night!  The Animal Shelter League’s (ASL) annual fundraiser, Bark after Dark, will happen from 6:30-10 p.m.  Will you be there?  Why not?  For just $45 you can enjoy a delicious Italian dinner, listen to some beautiful harp music, see an inspiring slideshow of animals helped over the years and have an opportunity to bid on over 100 auction and raffle items.  It all takes place at the Rohnert Park Community Center and you are invited, and urged, to join in the fun.

Sally Tomatoes will be serving a delicious pasta dinner including salad and garlic bread.  Our local Rotary Club of Rancho Cotati will be working the bar – with fine wines, Lagunitas beer, margaritas and non-alcohol drinks available.  Delicious desserts include adorably decorated cupcakes from Bake You A Cake in Hopland and lemon bars and sugar cookies from Sweetmill Food Company in San Rafael.  Hungry yet?  Bring your appetite!

The silent auction and raffle offer something for everyone with everything from piano lessons, a bicycle, deals on restaurants (e.g. John Ash, Central Market), entertainment, wines and winery tours, unique artwork and craft items, Baccarat figurines, Bev Doolittle paintings and so much more!  The live auction includes a cat enclosure kit from C & D Pet Products, Dinner for four prepared by our own Rohnert Park Firefighters and a tour of the station, Fly over Sonoma County for three, Afternoon on the Bay for six and an American Flag crafted out of fire hoses.  Our MC is none other than KSRO’s anchor of the “Sonoma County’s Morning News,” Pat Kerrigan.  She is sure to keep things lively and purses open!

All of this is to raise funds for the Animal Shelter League’s life-saving programs and support of the Rohnert Park Animal Shelter.  Which not only means your money stays local, it means the animals and people that are helped are your neighbors.  ASL funds medical costs for injured and sick animals that come into the shelter – allowing us to save many more animals that simply need a broken leg set, tumors or an eye removed, lab work done, teeth pulled and other things that help make them adoptable.  Chapo, a handsome Shepherd-mix that is at the shelter undergoing treatment for heartworms, will be our official greeter at Bark After Dark to show his appreciation (and try to find a new home!)  ASL also sponsors the “Get Them Back Home Campaign” that offers free pet ID tags and microchips to all residents of Rohnert Park and the City of Cotati.  Another important program is Silver Paws, which offers low-income seniors assistance with veterinary costs for their beloved pets.

ASL is contributing to the remodel of the shelter’s clinic to help make it more efficient and allow even more animals to be helped.  The next biggest goal is the creation of an Education Center at the shelter to give us a place to hold dog-training classes, house our popular Kidz ‘n Critters summer camp (we’re quickly outgrowing the lobby!), provide a facility for classes and youth groups to come for tours and speakers and so much more!  This is a big project and will need lots of community support to make it happen.  Won’t you contribute?  If you can’t make it to Bark After Dark you can still make a donation at the shelter or online at animalshelterleaguerp.org.  Let’s make this dream happen!
