Slow down and breathe

We often find that we are literally holding our breath when rushing about trying to get everything done with our very busy schedules.  Something so simple as taking a moment to focus on enjoying a long slow deep inhale of fresh air, feeling it inside of us and then following with an equally long slow deep exhale can do wonders for our spirit and our overall efficiency.  All of our systems need oxygen and welcome a moments respite from the stresses of our hectic life pace.

Be present to the moment

Whenever you begin to think about all or any of the things that need to be attended to, decide to NOT think about it or them at that very moment.  Instead, decide when you will stop what you are doing to check your ‘to do’ list rather than constantly running a mental list that is never complete.  Put that list either on paper or into an electronic reminder system.  When I forget this simple piece of advice, it always amazes me just how much time and energy is wasted running mental lists.

Keep your blood sugar levels even

Eat well and regularly.  Let your body have a routine that it can depend upon – regular meals and mealtimes along with good nutritious foods and beverages.  Remember that simple carbohydrates such as sugars in any form will give you a quick energy lift followed fairly quickly by an energy letdown.  Proteins and good fats will give you a slow steady fuel supply to keep both your body and your mood smoothly functioning.  Choose wisely.

Do not let the simplicity of these ‘everyday’ thoughts belie their true significance.
