Weed abatement coming to a close
December 6, 2019

Your around-town fire prevention update. I’d like to take this opportunity to share some projects our staff are working on to help keep our community, residents, and businesses safe.

Clearwater at Sonoma Hills located at 710 Rohnert Park Expressway will be opening soon. You are invited to walk through it and schedule a tour. The 90-unit, 114-bed senior living facility features personalized care. Residents’ needs range from ambulatory to mobility challenged and memory care. The two-story facility has full sprinklers and fire alarms throughout. The lobby has a dining/bistro area with seating for approximately 100. A commercial kitchen serves this facility and interconnects with the fire alarm. Full automatic sprinklers, detection and notification devices are installed throughout. Heart defibrillators and fire extinguishers are available throughout the building.

We’ve identified that elderly occupants will need evacuation assistance during an emergency, especially in the Memory Care Unit. Oxygen will be used from time to time and an emergency generator is located on the property.

Racquet Club Townhomes are located at 714 Racquet Club Circle. The complex features tennis courts, a pool and modern amentities. They are currently working on upgrading their fire alarm system throughout the complex.

The weed abatement process that began in early May, is now coming to a close. Weed abatement consists of removing plants or grasses that pose a fire hazard to occupied or vacant structures and transportation routes. It creates space around buildings and reduces the risk of loss to property and life from fire. Our second (and final) round of weed abatement notices was successful. All properties that were identified complied with the successful removal of hazardous brush. The compliance of our neighbors is reassuring during fire season and power shutoff events.

Crane Creek Apartments at 435 Southwest Blvd. are now move-in-ready. This building, a two story complex is conveniently located near Southwest and Manor shopping centers. It is minutes driving distance to Sonoma State University. A short single driveway feeds the buildings. The buildings are fully sprinklered with a fire alarm. The radio alarm system will work in the event the telephone lines aren’t functioning. Feel free to take a look around.

On a final note, you too can be a hero, join our Public Safety Department at the Bucket Brigade Blood Challenge. The event is scheduled for Sat. Jan. 4, 2020 at Fire Station #2 located at 5200 Country Club Dr. Visit to pre-register for the event or just come by from 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
