Shine light on the holidays
November 23, 2018

Rohnert Park’s 36th Annual Holiday Lights Celebration is lighting up the town Sat., Dec. 1 from 5 -7 p.m. Come listen to holiday music, provided by the Rancho Cotate High School Marching Band and Choir and enjoy complimentary treats and refreshments. Santa Claus will be making his appearance to kick off the festivities. This free all-ages event is sure to warm your heart with holiday cheer. For more information about the tree lighting celebration, contact the Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce at 584-1415. “Ho-ho-hope” you’ll join us at 500 City Center Drive for the Holiday Lights Celebration!

Officers Association launches toy drive

The Rohnert Park Public Safety Officers Association joins forces with Rohnert Park residents and Santa Claus to bring holiday cheer (in the form of presents) to less fortunate children of Rohnert Park. Santa and his Public Safety team will be making the rounds to a neighborhood near you in the coming weeks. The team enjoys spreading holiday cheer by taking selfies with Santa and one-on-one time to review wish lists. They also hope to collect cash and/or gift donations for this year’s Annual Toy Drive.

The Annual Toy Drive serves residents of Rohnert Park who are unable to provide toys for their children for the holidays. Families can sign up to be a recipient by coming to our main Public Safety building at 500 City Center Dr. and picking up an application. Applications are also available at most schools in Rohnert Park. The program partners with residents and the business community to ensure that every child in the program (ages 0-12) receives a toy or game for the holidays. This year applications will be accepted from Nov. 19 – Dec. 14.

Donation barrels will also be available at select businesses around the city. Business owners wishing to host a barrel may call 707-395-TOYS to set up a drop off and pick up time. We are always accepting donations to supplement our fundraising and purchase toys where we fall short.

The Public Safety Officers Association relies on the generous residents and business owners, and of course Mr. Claus, to make this program a success. For Cotati and Penngrove families the Rohnert Park-Cotati Rotary Club partners with the Rancho Adobe Fire District on a holiday toy drive program. For more information call 765-4898.

Holiday porch pirates

If you order gifts online, you could be a target for porch pirates. The city encourages you to shop local this h o l i d a y season to avoid package delivery theft. If you choose to buy online, schedule your delivery for a time you will be home or use an alternate address like your work or a neighbor that is frequently home, an Amazon locker or install security cameras. We hope you and your packages stay safe this holiday season! Combat porch pirates by reporting suspicious people and/or activity directly to Public Safety at 584-2612.
