The 24 hours of LEMONS returns to Sonoma Raceway this weekend, Dec. 7 and 8. The LEMONS series is an endurance racing series for cars that cost less than $500 dollars and usually attract around 200 cars per weekend. That’s not a lot of money for a car that is expected to race around the 2.52-mile road course in Sonoma County for hours on end. Required safety equipment for the car and drivers don’t count against the $500 cap nor does any external decorations on the car count. It is not unusual to see pit crews with extra engines and gearboxes in the paddock just waiting to be installed in the cars as failures are almost assured. Spectators are able to walk around the paddock and get up close and personal to cars, drivers and pit crews.
