This point along the Liver Meridian (the energy pathway known to acupuncturists to regulate the emotions and hormone balance), is called Liver 5.  It is located five inches above the tip of the medial malleolus (that protruding bone of the inner ankle); you will find this point on the midline of the inner surface of the tibia bone. It is excellent for irregular menstruation, or muscular weakness and atrophy of the legs. It is considered a "local point" for weakness or inability to control leg movements, based on the location at the ankle, and because the Liver Meridian regulates hormone balancing it can help ease menstrual concerns for women whose periods come too early (every three weeks or less) or too late (every five weeks or more).  Pressing this point increases circulation within the energy pathways, and can also be used preventively upon awakening each morning to avoid developing the symptoms.
