HopeDance to bring film fest to Cotati’s Songbird

HopeDance Films from San Luis Obispo is traveling to Sonoma County for a special showing of new documentaries, including a film festival, Aug. 27-30, at Songbird Community Healing Center in Cotati. The films include “Animal Communicator,” “Cowspiracy,” and “Song of the New Earth.”

HopeDance Films, run by Bob Banner, is trying to create “ecologically sustainable, practical, down-to-earth solutions, holistic, healthy and awakened community.”

One of the ways they do this is by purchasing the rights to show new movies. The films are usually followed by a discussion or some other community-building event. Because HopeDance Films is located in San Luis Obispo, they can usually only afford to come to this area once or twice/year.

“I love having them come to Songbird,” says director Jasmine Gold, “because they are right in line with our mission of “sharing information, providing healing, and supporting growth for everyone through community, connection, and creativity.

• “Animal Communicator” (Wednesday, Aug. 27, 7:30 p.m., $10) will be followed by a discussion with two local animal communicators, Renee Gallagos and Barbara Martin. According to Banner, “Be prepared to have your paradigm replaced. This is one of the most moving and inspiring and provocative docs I’ve seen in a long time.”

• “Cowspiracy” (Thursday, Aug. 28, 7:30 p.m., $10), a new groundbreaking feature length environmental documentary that uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today… and solutions, will be followed by a discussion.

• “Song of the New Earth,” a new documentary profiling Sound Shaman Tom Kenyon and the Power of Sound (Saturday, Aug. 30, 10 a.m., $15) will be introduced by Santon de La Vie, Founder and Director of the Global Healing Forum and followed by a sound journey with sound specialist Jan Cercone.
