Stomach 36 good for increasing physical and mental stamina
This point along the Liver Meridian (the circulation pathway in Chinese Medicine that assists with emotional aspects and hormone balance) is known to acupuncturists as Liver 4. It is located where the top of the foot meets the ankle, on the inner aspect of the tendon called m. tibialis anterior. Liver 4 is excellent for alleviating pain below the ribs, difficulty emptying the bladder fully, or hernia pain. (Fun fact: The area below the ribs is known as the hypochondria, from the Greek word hypokhondria meaning “under the breastbone” in the 16th century it referred to the upper abdomen, and later in the 19th century it meant a melancholic person who talks excessively about their own health [a hypochondriac] likely because such a person often complained of idiopathic abdominal pains). Fortunately Liver 4 is a good choice for pain below the ribs whether from a structural or a psychosomatic cause.
Pressing this point increases circulation within the energy pathways, and can also be used preventively upon awakening each morning to avoid developing the symptoms.
