From vaudeville to stardom. Opening the 2014/2015 “Coming Home: An American Theatre Experience” season, “Funny Girl” celebrates the “rags to riches” success story of Fanny Brice, a spunky nobody from New York, “a bagel on a plate full of onion rolls,” who becomes a famed performer.

“Funny Girl” encompasses every vital ingredient of the great American musical – a renowned score by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Bob Merrill to songs like “People,” “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” and “You Are Woman, I Am Man.” It is centered on a real life star of the American stage and screen, Brice. Originally brought to life and made famous on Broadway and film by Barbra Streisand, “Funny Girl” shows us the struggle of many entertainers trying to balance the love of career and the love of life.

Funny Girl runs Aug. 22-Sept. 14 in the G.K Hardt Theatre. Tickets are $15-$35 and will be available online or at the box office. Go to www.6thstreetplayhouse.com for tickets and more information.
