Piranhas set team records at Jr. Olympic meet

The Rohnert Park Piranha swim team sent 13 swimmers to Concord for the Junior Olympic Championships. 

Cayla Whetstone, competing in the 11-12 competition, broke the 50-meter breaststroke record, which Taylor Young held since 2008.

Justin Wong broke the 50 meter Freestyle record that was previously held by Ian Lentz since 1997. The girls 10-under 200 freestyle relay team of Hailey Woodcox, Alexis Lewis, Sena Erickson and Katie Honey broke a record that had stood since 1997. At this championship meet, the top eight qualified for the finals. Several Piranhas made it into finals and walked away as top qualifiers in this meet.

Andrew Wang took fifth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 200 breaststroke. Aric Lang placed third in the 800 freestyle, while Jayson Shinn placed eighth in the 50 and 200 breaststroke events.

Whetstone placed 2nd in the 50 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Wong was second in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 50 butterfly. He also placed seventh in the 50 breaststroke.

Woodcox finished sixth in the 400 freestyle and eighth in the 200 freestyle. Honey took fourth in the 100 breaststroke, while Erickson placed eighth in the 50 butterfly.
