|Piranhas shine at Petaluma, Pleasanton meets
The Rohnert Park Piranhas swim team continues to have a standout summer. The locals did well at meets last weekend in Pleasanton and Petaluma and will be strongly represented at the Junior Olympic meet this weekend in Concord. The Piranhas also will compete in the Far Western Championships in Concord on July 30-Aug. 3.
In the 8-under age group, Emily Mathis swam in her first long course meet and achieved a Pacific swimming recognized A time in the 50-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle.
Taylor Whetstone swam to a new Pacific swimming recognized A time in the 100-meter freestyle.
Sena Erickson, competing in the 9-10 age group, swam her very first long course meet and earned a new Far Western time standard in the 50-meter butterfly. Katie Honey, 9-10 age group, had two new Far Western time standards in the 50-meter breaststroke and the 50-meter butterfly. She also achieved a new Junior Olympic time in the 200 individual medley.
Alexis Lewis, also in the 9-10 group, set a new Pacific swimming recognized B time in the 200-individual medley. Hailey Woodcox achieved new Junior Olympic time standards in the 100-meter freestyle, 50-meter butterfly, 50-meter backstroke and a new Pacific swimming recognized A time in the 200-meter individual medley.
Justin Wong walked away with three new Far Western times in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter breaststroke and the 200-meter individual medley, where he also had a new team record.
In the 11-12 age group, Cayla Whetstone picked up two new Junior Olympic time standards in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly. Travis DeVries had two new B times in the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Jayson Shinn swam to a new A time in the 50 meter butterfly.
In the 13-14 age group, Melissa Adams achieved a new A time in the 50 freestyle. Ian McKenzie, in the 15-16 group, had a new A time in the 200 individual medley and two new B times in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
In the 17-18 age group:
Aric Lang (17-18 group) had a new Junior Olympic time in the 200 freestyle.
At Pleasanton, Jeffry Devries, Kenneth Shinn and Andrew Wang each came home with new best times in several events.
