|Fire damages RP residence
A garage fire caused an estimated $70,000 in damage to a Rohnert Park home on the afternoon of June 26 and displaced its residents.
The home, on the 7900 block of Santa Barbara Drive, had recently been remodeled. The owner, Kym Phipps, was at home with her four children when a loud boom occurred. After realizing her home was on fire, Phipps rushed her four children out of the home and then returned to rescue the family dogs.
The fire was reported at around 4:15 p.m. The first crew to arrive was the Rohnert Park Dept. of Public Safety. The Rancho Adobe Fire District, Rincon Valley Fire District, the Santa Rosa Fire Dept. and Cal Fire all made a coordinated interior effort to fight the fire.
Once inside the house, crews found the fire had spread to the kitchen.
They were able to limit the fire damage to the home to about half the structure. No other property was damaged, and there were no injuries.
The fire was controlled in 30 minutes.
The fire remains under investigation.
