RP man arrested for possession of expensive car

A Rohnert Park man was one of two suspects arrested by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office for possession of stolen property and credit card fraud Wednesday evening, June 4.

According to Sheriff’s Office report, a deputy patrolling in the Roseland area spotted a stolen 2012 McLaren high end sports car worth approximately. $240,000.

The vehicle was stopped on Dutton Avenue and the driver, 19-year-old Mohannad Halaweh, of Rohnert Park, and passenger Nhimia Kahsay, also 19, of Santa Rosa, were arrested without incident.

Further investigation by Sheriff’s Office detectives revealed the fraudulently obtained credit card number used to book the stolen sports car was also used to book a $12 million vacation home in Glen Ellen on June 12.

The fraudulent charges for the stolen vehicle were $13,000, and the property rental was $27,000.

Halaweh, 19 years old, of Rohnert Park, was booked into Sonoma County Jail, where his bail was set at $100,000.

Kahsay was booked into the county jail for outstanding fraud warrants out of Del Norte County and will face additional charges related to this investigation. Kahsay’s bail was set at $60,000.
