|Treat Dad to jazz on June 15
In an era when free entertainment has become a vanishing breed, the 34th annual Cotati Jazz Festival offers a full day of free entertainment in a handful of venues around the Cotati Hub on Fathers Day, June 15, from noon-5 p.m.
The event is produced by the Cotati Chamber of Commerce and features a variety of local jazz acts as well as food, wine and beer for purchase. Sponsors include KJZY Smooth 93.7 and Lagunitas Brewing Company of Petaluma.
“The event takes place all over downtown Cotati, but is centered in La Plaza Park,” said festival coordinator André Morrow. “Bring a blanket or lawn chair, and kick back in the park listening to some of the best musicians in Sonoma County.”
The schedule and venues are as follows:
• The bandstand in La Plaza Park featuring: The Matt Silva (funky jazz quartet with a blues and soul base) at noon; Planet B (septet performing original compositions with influences of rock, swing, reggae, calypso and bossa nova) at 1:40 p.m.; and Phoney Abalone (New Orleans-style funk quintet with other influences) at 3:20 p.m.
• The 8 Ball Tavern presents the Hellhounds, a popular classic and original blues band, from 1-4 p.m.
• The Redwood Café showcases Gold Coast Jazz, a Dixieland and swing sextet, from 4-9 p.m.
• The Cotati Yacht Club and Friar Tucks will also have live jazz.
Food Vendors to date include The BBQ Spot, Thai Essence, Mammy's Yammys, Frozen Art Ice Cream and Russotti's Concessions. Adults, 21 years of age and older, may purchase beer from Lagunitas Brewing Company or wine from the Cotati Chamber.
