Rancho girls travel to face top-seeded Alhambra

The Rancho Cotate High girls’ softball team hits the road on Friday to face top-seeded Alhambra of Martinez in the second round of the North Coast Section Div. II playoffs.

Alhambra, 22-2, crushed No. 16 seed San Lorenzo on Wednesday in a game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. Alhambra, according to Cal-Hi Sports newsletter, is No. 6 in California in the overall rankings.

The Cougars, the No. 9 seed in the tournament, earned their way into the second round by defeating host Redwood at Larkspur, 7-6 in nine innings on Tuesday.

Rancho Cotate enters the game with a record of 18-6-1.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Alhambra High School in Martinez.
