|Annual Avenue of Flags kicks off Memorial Day
The public is invited to take part in an annual rite in Rohnert Park – the 28th annual Avenue of Flags Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 26, at the Rohnert Park Community Center.
This event is steeped in tradition, which includes the 45-member Rohnert Park Community Band performing before, during and after the ceremony. The band is scheduled to begin playing at around 9:30 a.m.
At around 10 a.m., there will be a Color Guard procession down the Avenue of Flags followed by the opening ceremonies.
This year’s guest speaker is Rohnert Park native Timothy Aboudara, who has been with the California Boys State Program for 40 years and has held the position of Chief Officer for the last six. He is scheduled to speak for approximately 20 minutes.
The Rohnert Park Vintage Choir will perform a song, which will be followed by the closing ceremonies.
This year’s event is expected to draw close to 350 people, and there will be an estimated 170 American flags flying, which will be on loan from the relatives of deceased veterans.
The Rohnert Park Community Center is located at 5401 Snyder Lane in Rohnert Park.
