‘Young Frankenstein’ nets honors from theater critics
Choreographer, musical directors also earn awards from SF Critics Circle

Spreckels Theatre Company in Rohnert Park was honored with several San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle awards for its 2013 North Bay premiere of Mel Brooks’ Musical “Young Frankenstein” in the category of productions presented in a theater seating 300 or more.

Spreckels’ musical comedy production of Mel Brooks’ beloved 1974 film received top honors for outstanding excellence and achievement in theater for “Entire Production” and “Ensemble.”

Honors were also awarded to Michella Snider for choreography, Sandy and Richard Riccardi for musical direction, Mary Gannon Graham for her featured role as Frau Blucher, and Denise Elia Yen for her principal role as Elizabeth Benning.

The San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle, representing theater reviewers of print, radio and electronic media, announced its award winners at its annual gala held May 5 in Oakland. Awards are nominated and presented to actors, directors, designers, writers and productions reviewed by SFBATCC member in theaters throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Awards are given for dramas or comedies and musicals in three separate categories determined by the size of the theater.
