Two disturbing incidents have prompted the Rohnert Park Dept. of Public Safety to urge citizens to use extreme caution on creek paths throughout the city.

The first happened at 10:55 p.m. the night of April 17 in the parking lot of Rancho Cotate High School near the Copeland Creek trail. According to a RPDPS report, several people were gathered in the parking lot at Rancho Cotate High when a man wearing dark clothing walked into the parking lot and started shooting at them. There were no reported injuries.

On April 26, a person reported that he was walking on the Copeland Creek trail between Commerce Boulevard and Seed Farm Drive when a male wearing dark clothing stabbed him in the abdomen and then fled. It is unknown at this  time if the two incidents are related. But RPDPS said it will be increasing its patrols along the Copeland Creek trail and everywhere else in the city. RPDPS asks citizens to call 911 immediately to report any suspicious activity or people.
