|Sebastopol’s Main State West to host ‘Mother Jones in Heaven’ April 25
Mary Gannon Graham will bring legendary activist Mother Jones to afterlife at Sebastopol’s Main Stage West (MSW) in the California premiere of “Mother Jones in Heaven” on April 25.
Fans of Gannon Graham have enjoyed her portrayals of Patsy Cline, Shirley Valentine and Florence Foster, to name a few of her roles. This time, they will witness the resurrection of the woman once known as “the most dangerous woman in America” for her success in organizing mineworkers and their families against mine owners.
Mary Harris Jones (1834-1930) was an Irish-American schoolteacher and dressmaker who became a prominent labor and community organizer. She helped coordinate major strikes and cofounded the Industrial Workers of the World. In her later years, she became known as Mother Jones.
“Mother Jones in Heaven” features 15 of Si Kahn’s most memorable songs. In the play, Mother Jones finds herself in a celestial Irish pub (her vision of heaven) where she spins yarns on her heroic 100 years on earth.
