Pending ratification from the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District Board of Trustees, Amie Carter will be the new principal at Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park next school year.

The Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet May 13 at 6 p.m. at Mountain Shadows Educational Center.

Carter currently is serving as principal at Thomas Page Academy in Cotati. Before coming to the CRPUSD, Carter was an English teacher and an assistant principal at Ripon High School in Ripon, just north of Modesto. She and her family live in Petaluma.

According to a CRPUSD press release, Carter enjoyed her tenure as an elementary school principal, but her passion for high school led her to inquire about the Rancho Cotate High School position as soon as she saw it was available.

“In the end, her passion for high school and her knowledge shined above the other candidates and she was endorsed by the staff team, the parent/student team and the district leadership team,” CRPUSD Superintendent Robert Haley said the press release.

Carter did not make the decision to pursue the Rancho Cotate position without thinking about the needs of her current school, but she believed the conditions were right for the change and further believed the needs of both schools could be served.

“As I deeply care for our Thomas Page family, the decision to apply for Rancho was not one I took lightly and I viewed it as an opportunity to expand my service and have a greater impact – not only as your children enter high school, but also as all other district students move to high school,” Carter wrote in a letter to Thomas Page parents. “I love this school and our community and we have established an excellent foundation for Thomas Page’s growth as a K-8 Academy over time.”

Carter completed her undergraduate studies at Northern Arizona University ,earning a B.A. in English. She completed two graduate degrees at California State University Stanislaus ,earning an M.A. in Rhetoric and Writing and a M.A. in Educational Leadership.
