“Divergent Acts: Current Work by Sonoma State University Sculpture Alumni” will be presented by the SSU Library Art Gallery from April 1-July 12.

The artists in Divergent Acts: Current Work by Sonoma State University Sculpture Alumni are exceptional in their collective range of diverse approaches to sculpture making.

The common denominator, however, is that they all studied sculpture at Sonoma State University under Professor Jann Nunn, also the curator for this exhibition.

Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday and noon-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Also, there will be an artists’ reception on Thursday, April 3, from 4-6 p.m.

Nunn, a mixed-media conceptual artist and sculptor who fosters an experimental approach to art making and promotes artistic authenticity in her students, chose the artists based on proposal submissions. The selected projects range from traditional object-based pedestal sculpture to video, materials ranging from cast bronze to yogurt mold, and concepts from biological destruction to texting communication.

The roster of artists includes: Annalisa Vobis, Andrew Sofie,  the collaborative team of Nicholas Harris with Ben Lastufka, Missy Engelhardt, Catherine Daley, Christopher Collette, Wyatt Amend.

Also, three of the artists will hold lectures. Vobis’ lecture is April 1 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Engelhardt’s lecture is April 8 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Collette will speak from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on April 15.

All events are free and open to the public. The gallery is located at 1801 E. Cotati Ave. in Rohnert Park. Call (707) 664-2295 or email Carla Stone at carla.stone@sononoma.edu for more information..
