|SRJC events to celebrate Latina women during March
The Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) Women’s History Month Committee will present a series of speakers and cultural events during the month of March. This year’s program is focused on discussing the experiences of Latina women.
Author Reyna Grande will have two upcoming presentations at SRJC’s Santa Rosa campus on Monday, March 3. Grande will speak at noon in Newman Auditorium with a lecture entitled “Crossing Borders,” where she will share her personal journey from being an undocumented immigrant to an award-winning author. A book signing at the SRJC bookstore will follow the presentation.
Grande will continue sharing her personal story at 7 p.m. in the same auditorium, this time in a Spanish-language lecture entitled “La experiencia de inmigrantes: Lo que los padres sacrifican para mejorar el futuro de sus hijas/os.”
Topics will include sacrifices parents made, challenges faced and how parents can support their children in their educational journeys. Grande will be available for questions from immigrant students, their parents and families following the presentation.
Mariachi Femenil Orgullo Mexicano, an all-women mariachi group, will perform a concert on Saturday, March 8 in Newman Auditorium at 7 p.m. in honor of International Women’s Day.
DeColores, a local all-women's ranchera and corrido group, will open for the mariachi group.
