Composer, professional jazz pianist and scholar Jon Jang will visit Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) Wednesday, March 5.

Jang will begin the afternoon by giving a talk entitled “One Day American, One Day Alien: Artists of Color Who Changed the National Anthem.” The performance will include an eclectic array of pieces ranging from Duke Ellington, the Shaoxing Opera, Joni Mitchell and his own compositions.

Jang has given musical voice to a silent history. The majority of his works represent a chronology of Chinese-American history. He has composed numerous works paying tribute to the many individuals who contributed to this history.

Jang’s lecture will be located in the Bertolini Student Center on the Santa Rosa campus from noon-1:30 p.m. Later that same evening, at 7:00 p.m., Jang will follow up with a performance in the Newman Auditorium in Emeritus Hall.
