The Music Department of Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) will present a jazz concert by the Bennett Friedman Quartet on Friday, March 14, at 8 p.m. in Newman Auditorium on the Santa Rosa campus.  The concert features Eddie Mendenhall on piano, Cliff Hugo on bass and drummer Jason Lewis.

Mendenhall and Friedman have been musical associates for many years, performing together in the Ray Brown Big Band.  Mendenhall has directed the jazz program at Monterey Peninsula College, and is a graduate of Boston’s Berklee College of Music, with a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Composition.

Hugo has spent many years with the art-rock band Supertramp.  He has also performed with Ray Charles, Melissa Manchester and Willie Bobo among others.  He is currently on the jazz faculty at SSU.

Lewis is performing for the first time in the Friedman Quartet.

He has recorded with Boz Scaggs and has appeared with a long list of jazz greats, including Gary Burton, Regina Carter, James Moody and Larry Coryell. Lewis teaches percussion at San Jose State University.

Friedman, a saxophonist, has performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Stanford Jazz Workshop, the San Jose Jazz Festival, the Healdsburg Jazz Festival, the Monterey Bay Blues Festival and the Russian River Jazz Festival.   General admission to the event is $10 and $5 for students and seniors.

Tickets are available at the door only.  Proceeds from the concert benefit the SRJC Foundation Jazz Studies Fund. The SRJC campus is located at 1501 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa. There is a $4 fee for parking on campus.
