|Concerto for Viola and Orchestra scheduled for GMC March 22-24
The contemporary highlight of Santa Rosa Symphony’s current season is a world premiere composition by award-winning, Iranian-born Behzad Ranjbaran. His “Concerto for Viola and Orchestra” will be performed on March 22-24 in Weill Hall at the Green Music Center by the London Symphony Orchestra’s principal violist Paul Silverthorne. Maestro Bruno Ferrandis will conduct the orchestra.
In addition to the world premiere viola concerto, on the program for March are Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic suite “Scheherazade,” based on tales from “The Arabian Nights” and an orchestral showpiece from Borodin: Polovtsian Dances from “Prince Igor,” in which the youth orchestra musicians will perform alongside professional musicians.
Tickets range from $20 to $80 for performances on Saturday and Monday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
