The Sonoma State University Theater Arts and Dance department will present the play “She Kills Monsters” March 5-8 and March 26-29 in Ives Hall, Studio 119.

The play, written by Qui Nguyen and directed by Paul Draper, centers on high school teacher Agnes, who comes to terms with the death of the teenage sister, Tilly, she never really knew.

Agnes discovers Tilly’s rich role-playing world of “Dungeons & Dragons” and her secret identity as Tilius the Paladin. Dubbed with her own game handle – Agnes the Ass-hatted – and provided with only a “regular” sword, she follows the dynamic trio of Tilius, Lilith and Kaliope in search of the "Lost Soul of Athens." She confronts Orcus the Overlord of the Underworld, does battle with five-headed dragon Tiamat and finds her true self.

Set in Athens, Ohio in 1995, Agnes’ real-life quest to know her sister is paralleled in a "Dungeons & Dragons" adventure theatrically bringing Tilly’s hidden high school life to life – and into the open.

Show times are: 7:30 p.m. March 5 and 8; 6:30 p.m. March 6; 11 p.m. March 7; 7:30 p.m. March 26, March 28 and March 29; and 11 p.m. March 27. Tickets are $10 for non-SSU  students and seniors; $15 for SSU faculty and staff; $17 general admission; and SSU students get in free.
