Despite the fact his team dropped both games last week, Rancho Cotate boys’ basketball player Anthony Matteri personally had a good week.

In an eight-point loss to Santa Rosa on Feb. 6, Matteri led all scorers with 20 points. He also had four steals, two assists and three rebounds.

Casa Grande 73

Rancho Cotate 43

The Gauchos blew the game open in the first half by taking a 36-15 lead and were never threatened by the Cougars.

Still Matteri, who had 15 points, including a trio of 3-point baskets, made his mark on defense as he held Casa Grande’s Cetrick Yeanay scoreless the entire game. Yeanay entered the contest averaging nearly 20 points per game. Rancho Cotate fell to 4-20 overall and 0-12 in the North Bay League. The season ends tonight for the Cougars with a road game at Maria Carrillo of Santa Rosa. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
