Wildcats, Jaguars knock off RC girls

The Rancho Cotate High girls’ basketball team got off to a strong start in Tuesday night’s game against visiting Windsor but was unable to maintain its level of play in a 58-41 North Bay League loss.

The Cougars bolted to an 11-4 lead after the first period, but the Jaguars outscored Rancho Cotate 40-16 in the second and third periods.

Nicole Guerrero was the top scorer for the Cougars with 16 points. 

Rancho Cotate now stands at 7-12 overall and 0-7 in the NBL. Windsor remained two games behind NBL-leading Santa Rosa at 6-2 (16-4 overall).

Rancho Cotate jumped to a 16-14 lead at the end of the first period. 

But in the second, the Wildcats grabbed control of the game by outscoring the Cougars 19-9 in the second period for a 33-25 halftime lead.

Guerrero again was the leading scorer for Rancho Cotate with 15 points, followed by Alejandra Moreno with 10.

Rancho Cotate on Monday will host Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa at 7:30 p.m.
