An explosive first half did the trick for the Rancho Cotate High girls’ basketball team in a non-league game against former North Bay League foe Elsie Allen on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars’ momentum didn’t last, however, as they dropped a 78-44 decision on the road against Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa.

The loss drops the Cougars to 6-8 overall and 0-3 in the NBL.

The Cougars will be at home tonight at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 17, for a league contest against Casa Grande of Petaluma (7-5 overall, 1-2 in the NBL).
