Rancho Cotate High School’s boys’ basketball team fell to 4-10 overall and 0-2 in the North Bay League by dropping a 69-24 encounter on the road against Montgomery of Santa Rosa on Friday, Jan. 10. On Jan. 8, Rancho Cotate dropped the NBL opener to Windsor.

The Cougars were unable to score in double figures in any of the four quarters and only made one free throw in the fourth. Rancho Cotate trailed 37-17 at halftime and 63-23 at the end of the third quarter.

Seniors Ryan Sousa and Anthony Matteri were the Cougars’ leading scorers with eight and five points, respectively.

A 21-point effort from junior Nick Tuttle was not enough against the Jaguars, who improved to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in the NBL by winning at Rancho Cotate.

Dismal 3-point shooting (0 for 13) played a key role in the Cougars’ loss.

Before a Jan. 23 home game against Ukiah, the Cougars will be on the road at Santa Rosa tonight, Jan. 17, and at Casa Grande of Petaluma on Jan. 21.
