|SSU launches new hospitality and tourism management certificate
In response to the growing needs of trained employees from the local hospitality and tourism sector, Sonoma State University is offering a new Hospitality and Tourism Certificate Program beginning Thursdays, 7-9:40 p.m., from Jan. 23-April 17 in Salazar 2019.
Dr. Kuyho Lee, School of Business, is the instructor and coordinator for this new program which will help students better understand the nature of the multifaceted hospitality industry and the functions of each hospitality and tourism segment.
“This program will eventually help students find their career opportunities in the hospitality and tourism industry,” he said. “Upon the completion of this course, the student will be capable of performing an entry level management job in the hospitality and tourism industry.”
The course is designed to offer an overview of hospitality and tourism management. Specifically, a variety of hospitality and tourism industry sectors such as hotels, restaurants, meetings and conventions, event management, cruise lines and the tourism industry will be discussed in detail. Internships will also be offered.
Lee received his Ph.D. in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. In addition, his experience in top hotels such as the Noga Hilton (Geneva, Switzerland) and the Fontainebleau Miami has helped him integrate real hospitality operation management skills and experiences into academic hospitality theory.
Furthermore, he taught a variety of hospitality management courses at Virginia Tech and Western Carolina University. He has also presented his research at prestigious academic conferences such as the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management and published in top-tier academic journals such as Journal of Retailing and Cornell Hospitality Quarterly.
