Burris to lecture at SRJC about MLK Jr.

Nationally known civil rights attorney John L. Burris will be the commemoration lecturer as part of Santa Rosa Junior College’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The lecture is open to the public and will take place on the Santa Rosa campus in Room 4246 of the Student Activities Center, located in the Bertolini Student Center.

Burris is well-known for his legal work in police brutality cases representing plaintiffs. He briefly represented Rodney King in his suit against the Los Angeles Police Department. Burris is most noted for filing and winning a civil suit over the BART Police shooting of Oscar Grant. In 1999, Burris published his acclaimed book, “Blue vs. Black,” which discusses the problem of police brutality against African-Americans.  Burris has also appeared as a legal commentator on MSNBC, CNN, and other television networks.
