Guerrero’s big night leads Cougars’ girls past El Molino 62-31

Thanks to a big night by Nicole Guerrero, Rancho Cotate High’s girls’ basketball team was able to snap a two-game losing streak.

Guerrero poured in 26 points as the Cougars rolled over El Molino 62-31 in a non-league contest at Forestville on Tuesday night. Reilani Peleti backed Guerrero’s effort with 13 points.

Rancho Cotate jumped on the Lions early and established a 20-11 lead by the end of the first quarter. 

The Cougars’ proved even more dominant as the game progressed by allowing the Lions to score in single digits in the second, third and fourth periods. The Cougars carried a 47-24 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Cougars improved to 3-4 overall. They currently are competing in the Wine Valley Tournament in Napa. 

Thursday, they opened against host Napa. Details of that game can be found at www.thecommunityvoice.com. The tournament continues through Saturday.

Following the tournament, Rancho Cotate will not take the court again until Jan. 7 when it travels to face the Windsor Jaguars in the North Bay League opener. That contest tips off at 7:30 p.m.

Rancho Cotate’s next home game is scheduled for Jan. 9 against Montgomery High of Santa Rosa. 

The Cougars then will host Elsie Allen for a 4 p.m. non-league game on Jan. 11.
