The Cotati Police early Wednesday morning arrested a man and woman on a multitude of charges, including burglary.

According to a police report, Officer Marcos Perez was in the industrial area of Cotati (Alder Avenue and Helman Lane) when he saw a white Ford van and a small red sedan drive past him into an area of closed businesses. Perez was on extra patrol of the area because burglaries were reported in that area the previous night.

The van matched a description of a vehicle used in the previous night’s burglaries. A short time later, the sedan tried to leave the area but was stopped by Perez.

The driver and passenger were contacted by Perez, who determined the driver, 43-year-old Barry Thomas, of Fresno, had an outstanding warrant from Fresno County for burglary with a bail of $300,000. Also, the van was determined to be a stolen vehicle from Petaluma. The van contained various types of tools, bicycles and other stolen property from Petaluma and unincorporated areas of Sonoma County.

The passenger in the red sedan, Cynthia Copeland, 52, also of Fresno, was taken into custody.

Thomas and Copeland were booked into Sonoma County Jail. Thomas was charged with burglary, possession of stolen property, conspiracy and possession of burglary tools. Copeland was charged with burglary, possession of stolen property, conspiracy possession of burglary tools, possession of methamphetamines and possession of a controlled substance.

This came remains under investigation, and the Cotati Police encourage anyone with additional information to call (707) 792-4611.
