|Asphalt spill snarls southbound Highway 101 traffic
A hot asphalt spill has basically turned southbound Highway 101 into a parking lot. The spill occurred mid-morning on Thursday near Wilfred Avenue in Rohnert Park, closing two lanes. The spill extended 50 yards, slowing vehicles to 2 mph and backing up traffic to Hearn Avenue in Santa Rosa, according to the California Highway Patrol.
An unsecured load of hot asphalt in at least one belly-dump truck is believed to have caused the spill. As of noon, California Highway Patrol officials have no idea how long it will take to clear the spill.
