|Indian artist to perform at Weill Hall Nov. 1
Recording artist, author and Sonoma State University ethnomusicologist Laxmi G. Tewari brings classical vocal music of Northern India to Weill Hall on Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
A singer in the ancient Gwalior gharana tradition, Tewari will perform with an ensemble of tabla, tambura and harmonium players from the San Francisco Bay Area. Chief among his recordings is Sameshwari, a raga created by Indian scholar Dr. Lalmani Misra, who unraveled the mystery of Samic scale dating from 1700 BCE. Tickets are $10-$15, parking included, and available at the door or online at http://www.sonoma.edu/music/performances/.
