Active Minds, Inc.’s Send Silence Packing, an award-winning public education exhibit of 1,100 backpacks representing the 1,100 college students who die by suicide every year, will be on display at the Santa Rosa Junior College Bertolini quad on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

In an effort to shed light on the tragedy of college student suicide and start a dialogue about a heavily stigmatized topic, the SRJC Active Minds Club, together with the Student Health Services department, has brought Send Silence Packing, an outdoor exhibit of 1,100 donated backpacks, to the SRJC campus.

To give a face to the lives lost, personal stories and stories written by families and friends accompany the backpacks for visitors to read to gain better understanding.

In addition, representatives from Active Minds, a national nonprofit headquartered in Washington D.C., will hand out literature on mental health, suicide prevention and suicide prevention resources.
